um, it's really been almost a whole year since i last blogged? wow. i still have thanksgiving wallpaper. i should change it, but i'd be changing it back in a few weeks anyway. maybe i'll find some nice halloween paper.
so.
1. harry potter
i started reading as they were published, then got busy/distracted after the fourth book and never finished. so, this summer i set out to re-read 1-4 and then finish up the series, watching the movie after each book. well, read the first book, saw the movie, then proceeded to tear through books 2-6 without stopping. now that i'm at the end, i find i want to re-read the first six again, really savoring them before i finish. part of me doesn't want to finish, because its kind of nice not knowing how it all turns out, i'm free to choose my own explanations and endings. so, i'm going to be in potter limbo awhile longer. also, very much looking forward to the digital release of the books, so i can carry them all always and read whichever ones i want at any time. regardless, i will watch movies 2-6 before i begin reading book 7. i don't want to take away the emotional impact of book 6 by knowing how it all turns out.
the other thing that is happening is i'm been writing fan fiction in my head, which i've really only ever done with the vampire chronicles. [professor snape, there's just so much to you, you could be your own series. (please j.k.?)] i'm inspired to write outside of nanowrimo, which basically never happens. it could also be because fall is looming, and its so much easier to embrace the crafting. in seemingly innocuous things like harry potter, there are much darker and deeper themes to explore. i find inspiration to continue braving the paths of my basic thematic interests.
2. soccer
my love for the beautiful game has increased exponentially this year. i'm very seriously contemplating thinking about looking into getting into a recreational league, but only if i can find a refresher class to take for skills confidence. until then, i'm content to cheer on the MD Terps and obsessively root for my favorite teams...now that i have all the extra sports stuff on my cable, i can spend many happy hours on the weekend screaming and yelling at the ref. bliss.
3. writing
this year nanowrimo went to camp. that means july and august were nano months. i wrote a few thousand words in july, so there's one more novel that is undone and on the shelf for completion at some point in my life! but in unprecedented events, i actually had a vague chronology down, so that means i was able to write in a linear fashion. i kind of liked it. i had no solid ideas for august's jaunt, but all of a sudden inspiration struck and i could see a whole like, 6 part series unfold. very exciting, but very much research to do. this will be on i come back to often, and i do pledge to complete. now that it's fall, i'm thinking about november's nanowrimo. i have a feeling i'll be returning to my goth-supernatural roots, as i'm really feeling tapped into that part of my creativity. i am determined to stay true to established mythologies though, so i need to do some research now. i'm cheating a little, in that i'm borrowing some ideas from my nano last november, but the story will be new. the inspiration is kind of the same though. sometimes i feel like i just re-write the same basic four stories all the time, but hey. i'm not the only one ha ha.
4. classes
i'm taking spanish, starting at the beginning again. i want to really enjoy watching soccer on the spanish station, plus it's a beautiful language and i really wish i hadn't kept up with it after high school. i'm also taking russian, because i'm insane, and because i really want a tough mental exercise. my ultimate goal is to actually do a nano all in spanish, and russian if i can ever master it that well.
that's all for now. i need to find a new wallpaper.
